[Men's Cross Country] 3 runners travel to Colorado to train

Comments

With the next cross country season right around the corner and the team bringing back all seven of the runners that were on the team that finished 17th at the NAIA National meet, this team has high expectations.   Joseph Mullen, Roderick Bowman and Austin Wiseman decided to take it to the next level and travel to Boulder, Colorado to train for the entire summer.  They will be staying right across the street from the University of Colorado and training at altitude until July 31st.  "I had the opportunity to do this in college and it was an experience I will never forget and I wanted them to have something similar" said Coach Jakubowski.

Roderick finished the NAIA indoor national championships with a 9th place finish and a very impressive PR of 14:43 and then came back to finish 4th place in the 10K at the outdoor championships earning him All-American honors.  Joseph Mullen qualified for the indoor championships in three events and made the finals in the 5k with an impressive PR of 14:54.  After battling some injuries during outdoors, he still managed to have a great season just missing the NAIA National marks in the 5k and 1500.  Austin Wiseman was a redshirt in Cross Country and came into track as a Steeplechaser even though he had never done one.  In his first performance in the event he ran 10:12 which at the time was a school record, so all three of these runners have the potential to do big things come cross country season.

"I am very proud of these guys, giving up their summer to travel far away from friends and family just to train and better themselves as athletes shows how much this season means to them.  I am very pleased we could make this work because it took a lot of planning and saving on their end.  I have an old college teammate that lives out there that will be showing them around so they will be able to hit all the great running spots.  This team has high standards for this upcoming season and all of them are training very hard, as a coach I am very proud of each member of this team, it takes a lot of self-discipline no matter where you are over the summer to get in the work it takes to have a great season and all these guys are doing the right things, I can't wait to see what this season brings"  said coach Jakubowski.
