Cross country set for USC Upstate Invite

Comments

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Lipscomb cross country squad is in action for the second consecutive weekend as the Bisons are headed to Spartanburg for the USC Upstate Invitational.

The race will take place on Saturday morning with the men kicking off at 9 and the women beginning at 9:45.

Among the 19 participants racing at the meet will be fellow ASUN Florida Gulf Coast and Kennesaw State.

“It’s not great competition,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “But, it is the conference championship course.

“Really, our primary purpose in going there is to just get a feel for the course so that we can come back at the end of October and feel better about what we need to do to win conference championships.”

The Purple and Gold hope to build off of last week’s successful pair of meets at the Texas A&M Invite and the Austin Peay XC Festival.

Brent Leber earned his first career ASUN Runner of the Week award for his performance at Texas A&M. The sophomore finished 20th with a time of 25:05.2.

On the women’s side, seniors Barbara Lee Ball (21:16.0) and Sally Larson (21:16.3) led the way in 11th and 12th place.
