Knoxville, TN – The Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs started the season off with a victory this past weekend at the Victor Ashe Fall Classic. The meet, hosted by Carson-Newman University, served as a pre-conference meet for Tennessee Wesleyan as Victor Ashe Park will be the hosting site for the AAC Conference Championship Meet on November 7th.

The men completed a 5k race Saturday morning, scoring a total of 41 points. Coming in second place was Montreat College. Other conference schools competing at the meet were Union (Ky.) College and St. Andrews University.

Senior Jacob Simmons and freshman Christopher Gabez led the way for the Bulldogs. Simmons came in second overall with a finishing time of 16:40. Trailing right behind him was Gabez. Gabez finished fourth overall with a time of 16:43.

Freshman Will Vineyard turned in a solid performance as well, finishing eighth overall with a time of 17:24. Freshman Bryce Choate was the next Bulldog to cross the finish line, coming in fourteenth place overall with a time of 17:41.

Rounding out the top five for the Bulldogs was freshman Dakota Ackerman. Ackerman finished twenty-first overall with a time of 17:56.

"We're rebuilding on the men's side this year after losing most of our top-10 from last year. Still, I'm encouraged by today's performance and I think we'll continue to get better as we look towards November," said Coach Herbert.

The Bulldogs will compete at the Berea College Invitational on September 19th.
