Hardeeville, S.C. – The Tennessee Wesleyan men's cross country team, led by a 27th place finish from senior Jacob Simmons, placed 12th overall at the 2015 Asics Sand Shark Invitational, hosted by University of South Carolina-Beaufort, this past Saturday (Oct. 24) morning.

Berea College won the meet with a total of 72 points. Tennessee Wesleyan had a total of 375 points.

Simmons crossed the finish line in 26:08, followed by a 58th place finish of 26:54 from freshman Christopher Gabez. Tennessee Wesleyan freshman Will Vineyard was 119th overall with a time of 28:16, while freshman Dakota Ackerman 126th with a time of 28:30. Tennessee Wesleyan junior Tim Murphy rounded out the scoring for the Flyers with a 164th overall finish with a time of 29:23.

"Probably our best team race of the year, but we've got a long way to go. Jacob and Chris are starting to run well and they'll both be in the hunt for national qualifying at conference. Our freshman trio of Will, Bryce, and Dakota is certainly coming along nicely as well, but we've got to find some depth behind them as they progress. Still, we're getting better every day, every week, every race, and that's the idea," said head cross country/track and field Coach Justin Herbert.

Tennessee Wesleyan returns to action on November. 7th, as they head to Victor Ashe Park in Knoxville, T.N. to participate in the AAC Cross Country Conference Championship. The men's race is set to go off at 10:00am.
