Knoxville, TN – The Lady Bulldogs opened up the cross country season this past weekend with a first place team finish at the Victor Ashe Fall Classic. The meet, hosted by Carson-Newman University, served a pre-conference meet for the Lady Bulldogs as Victor Ashe Park will be the hosting site for the AAC Conference Championship Meet on November 7th.

The Lady Bulldogs scored a total of 17 points, and placed their top six runners all in the top ten of the race. Coming in second place was Carson-Newman University, scoring 52 points. Other AAC schools to compete at the meet were Columbia (S.C.) College, Montreat College, St. Andrews University, and Union (K.Y.) College.

In addition to a first place team finish, the Lady Bulldogs also swept the top three individual places. Sophomore Hannah Rhodes, last year's AAC Runner of the Year, was the individual champion, with a winning time of 19:45. Following right behind her for second place was senior Robbiccaa Williams. Williams crossed the line in 19:49. Rounding out the top three was junior Leah Chance with a time of 20:01.

Finishing fourth for the Lady Bulldogs was sophomore Sierra Knighten. Knighten finished fifth overall in the race with a time of 21:11. Sophomore Karlie Yinger was the Lady Bulldogs' next finisher, coming in sixth overall with a time of 21:36.

Freshman Janet Muchiri was the final Lady Bulldog to earn a top ten finish, coming in tenth overall with a time of 21:49. Sophomore Chloe Nance turned in a top-25 performance, finishing twenty-second overall with a time of 23:12.

"Our top five was strong today," explained Coach Herbert. "We've got a strong squad on the women's side and I think we've got three of the top individual runners in the AAC."

The Lady Bulldogs will compete next at the Berea College Invitational on September 19th.
